This study is the result of the project: “Research, design and manufacture
a machine for processing of sugarcane’s post-harvest by-products in concentrated and
large-scale farming areas”. The objective is to improve the feed collecting unit of an existing self-propelled straw baling complex for collecting and baling sugarcane leaves
and tops on field. The improvement method is to add a chopper and a cutter to ensure
the relatively uniformity in length of leaves and cane tops before they are put into a baling
chamber. Through testing and evaluation, it was found that the length of leaves’ and cane
tops’ cuts, that is about 250 - 350 mm, meets the requirements of feeding and rolling
batches, and ensures stable working and productivity of the collecting and baling complex to reach 30-40 bales/hour.
